Temporary accommodation support for recent weather events in Kaikōura, Blenheim, and Wairoa

TAS is accepting registrations from people who are unable to return home, or who expect they may need temporary accommodation in the future as they undertake repair work.

"If you have been affected by the recent severe weather events in affecting Kaikōura, Blenheim, and Wairoa and need support finding temporary accommodation, we can help", says Charlotte Gair, Acting Head of Accommodation and Insurance Response.

"TAS is working closely with the local councils in Blenheim, Kaikoura and Wairoa, communities and iwi following the event to match needs with support options.

"Agencies will continue to work together to provide wrap-around support for affected communities, including social services, financial support, and temporary accommodation," Charlotte Gair said.

MBIE has a responsibility to coordinate temporary accommodation following an emergency, as per the National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan Order 2015.

Temporary accommodation is distinct from the provision of shelter and emergency accommodation, which is provided by regional CDEM Groups for short periods (of up to two weeks) in the immediate aftermath of an event.
