New platform provides a system-wide view of New Zealand research

NZRIS has been developed to make research information more visible, accessible and connected. By bringing together information from multiple organisations into a common format, the platform provides a comprehensive, system-wide view of publicly funded research activity.

At launch, NZRIS includes funding data from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Royal Society Te Apārangi and the Health Research Council. This is the first time funding information from these organisations has been brought together in a single system.

NZRIS will not initially provide a fully comprehensive view of all research funding and activity in New Zealand. Additional datasets and data providers are expected to be incorporated over time as the system matures.

The platform will support better decision-making by providing a stronger evidence base for policy and investment decisions. It will also help identify research strengths, gaps and emerging opportunities across New Zealand’s research system, and make it easier for researchers, businesses and organisations to identify potential collaborators.

NZRIS is designed to support collaboration and innovation by making it easier for researchers, businesses and organisations to identify potential partners and areas of shared interest. It also improves transparency by increasing visibility of how publicly funded research investment is distributed and used.

Additional organisations are expected to join the platform over time, increasing the value and breadth of information available through NZRIS.
