More practical AI support for small businesses

More small businesses across New Zealand will be supported to adopt artificial intelligence (AI), with the expansion of the AI Advisory Pilot.

Delivered through the Regional Business Partner Network (RBPN), the pilot provides hands-on, tailored support to businesses looking to adopt AI. Following strong demand, the programme will now support up to 150 businesses, up from 50, with eligibility widened so more firms can take part.

The pilot has also been extended to run until 31 January 2027, and eligible businesses can access co-funding of up to 50% (up to $15,000) to work with experts to identify opportunities for AI and implement practical solutions in their day-to-day operations.

Boosting support through business mentoring

Business Mentors New Zealand has also launched two new AI-powered tools to strengthen support for small businesses.

The Mentoring Assist AI tool helps mentors capture and organise insights from mentoring sessions, while the Digital Mentor tool provides 24/7 access to anonymised business insights that support advice on strategy, finance and marketing.

Together, these tools support more informed mentoring and free up time for mentors to focus on working directly with businesses.
