The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Australian Research Council (ARC), Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and Statistics New Zealand (Stats NZ) have now completed the review of the ANZSRC.

Review of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classification
The Government is developing New Zealand's Research, Science and Innovation (RSI) Strategy to set out our vision for RSI in New Zealand and its role in delivering a productive, sustainable, and inclusive future.
The Strategy will guide the direction of government investment in RSI and help us take action to ensure our RSI system is optimised for success.
The 11 National Science Challenges focus science investment on issues that matter to all New Zealanders.
The aim of the Better Start Challenge is to improve the potential for young New Zealanders to have healthy and successful lives.
In 2018 a mid-way review of the National Science Challenges concluded with the Science Board agreeing to fund all 11 National Science Challenges at the maximum funding amount. This amount was set by Cabinet in 2013 for 1 July 2019 – 30 June 2024, and brings the total investment to $680.8 million.
Established in 2016, the New Zealand-China Research Collaboration Centres are a mechanism to align existing cooperation and build new connections between New Zealand and Chinese researchers. In 2020, their mandate was expanded to include the coordination and support of joint research projects with China.
A 2020 Catalyst: Strategic investment in a collaborative research programme with the People’s Republic of China that aims to develop high-quality research on cutting-edge health and biomedical sciences.
It all began with a Masters university assignment to commercialise technology designed to age bananas. Pretty soon, the ‘Wine Grenade’ team was over-subscribed for its innovative wine-ageing product which is now influencing wine production around the world.
The Advanced Energy and Material Lab (AEMSLab), a multidisciplinary research group at University of Canterbury, made leaps and bounds in their research in 2017, receiving our Gold Status rating for the second year in a row.
