On Thursday 8 August 2024, the Building (Earthquake-prone Building Deadlines and Other Matters) Amendment Bill to extend the deadline for the remediation of earthquake-prone buildings had its first reading in the House.
An independent chair and steering group have been appointed to provide expert oversight for the review of earthquake-prone buildings and seismic risk management.
The Government has passed the Building (Earthquake-prone Building Deadlines and Other Matters) Amendment Bill that will extend earthquake-prone building remediation deadlines by 4 years.
The Seismic Review Steering Group will provide expert oversight for the review of seismic risk management in existing buildings, which is being delivered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
