This summary document shares key insights from meetings, sessions and written submissions from the May – June 2022 consultation phase on the draft version of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s Long-term Insights Briefing: The Future of Business for Aotearoa New Zealand.
MBIE sought feedback on an exposure draft of amendment regulations that set out the requirements for banks to provide open banking to customers on a wider range of digital channels, including those used primarily by businesses. Government considered the feedback received in this consultation and amended the regulations in May 2026.

3 new future-focused science organisations, formed by merging and refocusing New Zealand’s 7 Crown Research Institutes, have been in place since 1 July 2025. These organisations will concentrate on key areas of national importance to deliver a science system that is more connected, more commercially focused, and better aligned with the needs of New Zealand.
Our dependence on imported fuels means that if overseas supply is disrupted, we could face fuel shortages and rising costs at home.
We invest in science through contestable funding rounds. This investment supports programmes which build high-performing science and innovation systems that will transform New Zealand into a more diverse, technologically advanced and smart nation.
