Freedom Camping Regulations discussion document
This discussion document contains our (MBIE) proposals for new freedom camping regulations. Regulations are the detailed rules that are not written in the Bill. They include details like ‘how much a fine will be’ or ‘what technical requirements self-contained vehicles must meet’.
Transition Fund for Local Authorities
The government has provided $10 million ($5 million each year) through the Freedom Camping Transition Fund to support local authorities to undertake activities relating to the transition to the new freedom camping rules during 2022/23 and 2023/24. This funding is contestable.
