This Invitation to Contribute- Submissions Report provides an overview of the submissions that sets out themes raised by submitters through the Invitation to Contribute process. The main purpose of this documents is to summarise the submissions and feedback received through the New Zealand Tourism Futures Taskforce Invitation to Contribute submission process. Feedback from this process were based on the strengths of the current tourism system, the challenges that the tourism system is facing or will face, and about the ideal tourism system. The submissions that was gathered through this process was used to help inform the Taskforce’s thinking, as they develop recommendations for a report on the future of New Zealand’s tourism system.

The Tourism Futures Taskforce interim report

In June 2020, the Minister of Tourism set up the independent New Zealand Tourism Futures Taskforce (the Taskforce) following the significant change to global travel and tourism in New Zealand as a result of COVID-19. The main purpose of the Taskforce was to advise on what changes New Zealand can make to the tourism system, so that tourism enriches both New Zealand and the wellbeing of New Zealanders. The Taskforce has also made recommendations to address the long-standing productivity, inclusivity and sustainability (environmental, social and economic) issues present in some parts of the tourism sector.
