The Xerra Earth Observation Institute (formerly known as the Centre for Space Science Technology) is contracted by MBIE for $21.7 million excluding GST to establish, build and support a research institute with a focus on earth observation data.

MBIE funding details

Successful in their application for Regional Research Institute (RRI) funding in the 2015 call for applications, Xerra Earth Observation Institute received $14.7 million (excl GST) to drive innovation and growth in New Zealand by enabling access to, and exploiting, earth observation data.

In 2021 Xerra Earth Observation Institute received an additional $7 million (excl GST) for the Starboard Platform over a 2 year period from July 2021 to June 2023.

Establish a Centre for Space Science Technology

In 2015, Xerra Earth Observation Institute received $14.7 million (excl GST) to drive innovation and growth in New Zealand by enabling access to, and exploiting, earth observation data over a 6.5 year period from January 2017 to June 2023.

Starboard platform

In 2021 Xerra Earth Observation Institute received $7 million (excl GST) for the Starboard Platform over a 2 year period from July 2021 to June 2023.
