Partnerships application and assessment information

Who can apply

Partnerships must include at least 2 sector partners or a sector representative body and at least 1 research organisation. Applicants can be an industry or a research organisation or an entity specifically set up to represent and manage the partnership. We will only enter into an Investment Contract with a New Zealand-based legal entity.

The application process

Partnerships investment involves a 2-stage application process:

• Stage 1: Interested parties are invited to submit a Concept. The Science Board will assess Concepts against the eligibility criteria in the Gazette notice. The Science Board will select Concepts to progress to Stage 2 and invite the successful applicants to submit a Full Proposal.
• Stage 2: If invited to submit a Full Proposal, it will be assessed by independent assessors. The investment decisions will be made by the Science Board. Criteria for assessment are set out in the Partnerships Gazette Notice. In addition to excellence and impact criteria, the Gazette Notice sets out information on additional criteria related to governance arrangements and Vision Mātauranga.
