Tēnei tūranga – About the role

The Senior Advisor Capability & Education is a team member role within the Energy and Resource Markets (ERM) branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).  The Senior Advisor Capability & Education will bring business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with other managers, their team, and their wider team members.

The key focus of the position is supporting the branch to strengthen and develop internal capability and external education functions in its role as a regulator.

Working across ERM, the Senior Advisor Capability & Education is also responsible for building and enhancing the overall regulatory capability of the branch to ensure quality and consistency of practices in relation to its work and managing and mitigating areas of organisational risk.

Personal specifications

  • Proven track record in developing quality advice and guidance to influence multi-channel education strategies.
  • Fantastic writing skills, including a clear, concise, and plain English style that turns complex issues into easy to understand and communicate products. 
  • A demonstrated ability to form robust professional working relationships which includes collaboration and co-operation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project management experience, and experience managing contractual arrangements for out sourced service provision.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand audiences to determine their needs, priorities and response to legislative changes Ability to produce and recognise high quality work and provide peer support and coaching to colleagues.
  • Previous experience in a similar role within the private or public sector.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent operational experience.

The Senior Advisor Capability & Education will be required to deliver results in the following areas:

  • Effective planning, implementation and evaluation of targeted external information and education for stakeholders.
  • Identifying the audience/s to reach and identifying their needs through effective research (either in-house or external) and analysis.
  • Developing effective resources (print, web, etc.) with and for target groups, and achieving wide reach with these through effective and efficient channelling/distribution.
  • Developing, co-ordinating or contributing to the design of seminars, workshops and presentations.
  • Designing or commissioning effective electronic and web-based information and education tools and promoting these effectively to target groups.
  • Managing timely procurement processes that are in line with MBIE policies and procedures, to secure required resources.
  • Makes a significant contribution to the development of internal training and external education.
  • Is responsible for implementation, monitoring and reporting of ERM’s operational Capability & Education work programme.
  • Develop and implement ERM’s stakeholder engagement capability and develop external engagement programmes.
