Funding recipients for minor enhancements and maintenance

Funding rounds for the Maintaining the Quality of Great Rides Fund occur twice a year. The following projects have received funding.

Round 13 funding recipients

Round 13 of the MGR opened on 3 August 2020 and closed on 30 August 2020. 10 applications were approved for a total of $524,106 in MGR funding for total project costs of $1.053 million.

Bike Taupo Advocacy Group Inc. – Great Lake Trail

$11,328 for:

  • Various trail maintenance and enhancement works including weed control, tree planting, and signage.

Waikato River Trails Trust - Waikato River Trails

$119,840 for:

  • A range of trail enhancements including a new section of off-road trail and trail re-grading at Waipapa, trail resurfacing near Mangakino, boardwalk replacement at Arapuni dam, installation of safe drinking water and signage improvements.

Southland District Council – Around the Mountains Trail

$17,150 for:

  • Cattlestop improvements at Parawa and signage improvements.

Otago Central Rail Trail Trust - Otago Central Rail Trail

$30,000 for:

  • A range of trail improvements including landscaping, shelters and car parking.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council - Hawke’s Bay Trail

$56,420 for:

  • Various trail enhancements including interpretation, signage and landscaping.

Motu Trails Charitable Trust - Motu Trails

$25,211 for:

  • Various trail enhancements, including shelters, interpretation, signage and wayfinding.

Mokihinui-Lyell Backcountry Trust – Old Ghost Road

$94,979 for:

  • To upgrade a 2 km section of trail north of Ghost Lake Hut.

Queenstown Trails Trust – The Queenstown Trail

$92,678 for:

  • Various trail improvements, including trail resurfacing, removal of slip material from the trail and construction of rock retaining walls.

Hauraki Rail Trail Charitable Trust – Hauraki Rail Trail

$50,000 for:

  • For storm repair work and landscaping.

Hutt City Council – Remutaka Cycle Trail

$26,500 for:

  • Landscaping and toilet installation near car park at Orongorongo Station.
