Closed tourism funds

The Tourism Growth Partnership and Regional Mid-sized Tourism Facilities Grant Fund closed in 2017. Remaining funds were rolled into the Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

Tourism Growth Partnership

The Tourism Growth Partnership was set up to fund industry-led commercial projects focused on increasing productivity across the tourism sector. Between 2013 and 2017, 40 projects received $23.4 million in funding.

When the fund closed in 2017 all remaining funds were rolled into to the Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

Regional Mid-sized Tourism Facilities Grant Fund

The Regional Mid-sized Tourism Facilities Grant Fund was set up to fund projects in regions experiencing infrastructure pressure (eg, car parks and toilets) due to an increase in visitors.

During Round 1 and 2 of the fund 32 projects received funding.

When the Fund closed in 2017 all remaining funds were rolled into the Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

Tourism Infrastructure Fund

The main differences between the Regional Mid-sized Tourism Facilities Grant Fund and the new Tourism Infrastructure Fund are:

  • the eligibility and assessment criteria
  • an increase to $100 million total funding over 4 years to allow for larger than expected tourism growth
  • the Minister of Tourism issues a Priorities Statements setting out the funding objectives for each round
  • applications are first checked by us for eligibility, before being assessed in consultation with other agencies (where appropriate), and then independently financially assessed
  • projects are reviewed by a panel of representatives from the tourism industry, local government, central government and the commercial sector.
