Conversations to date have focused solely on drivers and machine operators which underpin many industries in Tairāwhiti.

The Transport and Logistics workforce [8] was 884 in 2022 and is predicted to be 935 by the year 2028.

Between 2023‐2028, it is estimated that this sector will have 274 job openings. This estimate includes the number of people required to fill new job openings (51) and replace workers (223) who move to another sector or retire.

In order to fill these job openings, the following predictions indicate the qualification requirements:
