Pacific Economic Strategy 2015-2021
Our Pacific Economic Strategy 2015-2021 outlines how we can support Pacific people to participate and share in New Zealand’s economic success.
The aims of the strategy
The strategy aligns with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment's (MBIE's) primary purpose to ‘grow New Zealand for all’. It aims to improve Pacific people’s involvement and contribution to the New Zealand economy through:
- more sustainable Pacific-owned businesses
- more sustainable job opportunities for Pacific people
- more affordable and suitable housing for Pacific people
The strategy is focused on actions with the greatest potential to accelerate Pacific economic outcomes. It also provides a platform for bringing together existing information about Pacific economic development to assess opportunities for growth and innovation.
How the strategy was developed
Our Pacific Economic Strategy was developed with the expertise of our Pacific Community of Practice and Pacific Senior Officials Group and feedback from the Le Tanoa seminar. This ensured cross-sector alignment, expert community involvement and the inclusion of Pacific perspectives and aspirations.
The Pacific Community of Practice, which contributed to the development of the strategy, comprised:
- the Pacific Strategic Think Tank
- the Pacific Operational Advisory Group
- MBIE’s Pacific Staff Network.
