On: 21 January 2018

The New Zealand Space Agency at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment has welcomed Rocket Lab’s successful second test rocket launch into space from the Mahia Peninsula.

The test rocket, called ‘Still Testing’, also saw Rocket Lab successfully deploy its first customer payloads into orbit, a significant milestone for both the company and New Zealand’s space industry.

The potential benefits for New Zealand’s economy are very significant. These include opportunities to grow in areas related to the space industry such as research, materials development and testing and to attract other space related companies to set up in New Zealand.

A range of government agencies, led by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, is also ensuring launch activities are safe and secure.

The New Zealand Space Agency is the lead agency for space policy, regulation and business development relating to the use of space from New Zealand.
