Energy demand increased slightly and renewable electricity generation remained above 80 per cent in 2017 according to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s latest annual energy report.
Energy in New Zealand 2018, released today, is MBIE’s annual round-up of the energy sector, highlighting key trends in energy supply, transformation, demand and price for the 2017 calendar year.
“Energy demand rose by 2.8 per cent compared to the previous year which was largely driven by the transport sector,” says MBIE’s Manager of Markets – Evidence and Insights, James Hogan.
“Despite a dry and calm winter, 82 per cent of electricity generation in 2017 was from renewable sources.”
