Access blocked for older browsers from Sunday 27th May

On: 25 May 2018

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) continues to review and strengthen the security of its websites. MBIE’s hosting provider is changing a configuration to ensure that their websites, and the data hosted on them, stays secure. This means anyone using old browsers may not be able to access our websites.

To continue to enjoy access to MBIE websites you will need to choose one of the following actions:

Affected browsers that need an upgrade or alternative browser installed

  • IE7 and below
  • Firefox 22 and below
  • Chrome 21 and below
  • Safari 6 and below for OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and below

  • IE10 and below
  • Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and below
  • Mobile Safari for iOS 4 and below
  • Chrome 21 and below

Affected browsers that can be configured to use TLS1.2

  • IE8, IE9, IE10
  • Firefox 23-26
  • Chrome 22-37

  • Android 4.4 (KitKat) to 4.4.4
  • Chrome 22-37

From the 27th May, if you try to access certain MBIE websites with an unsupported internet browser, then you may receive this error message SSL_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED_VERSION which means you won’t be able to access our websites.

We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause you. Website security is vitally important to government and business and progress in this area requires regular reviews and updates of our cyber security processes and platforms. Some older internet browsers aren’t able to provide the security we collectively need to be able to conduct business in a safe and secure way.
