Starting the roll on the consultation for the screen sector funding options

Published: 27 October 2022

The Government is consulting on options to lift the value of its investment in the New Zealand Screen Production Grant.

The screen sector currently contributes more than $3.5 billion to the economy each year, and directly employs more than 13,900 people. It benefits other industries, such as hospitality, construction and tourism. And it helps build reputation, stories, culture, home-grown talent and content that is shared on screens here in Aotearoa New Zealand and across the world.

The proposals put forward through the consultation  aim to increase the value generated from government investment in the New Zealand Screen Production Grant, and to improve how we attract productions to New Zealand and promote New Zealand as an internationally-regarded screen sector.

While this consultation proceeds, New Zealand is still open for business and it is business as usual for the screen sector and productions accessing the New Zealand Screen Production Grant.

We want to hear from the public what they think about the proposals we're putting forward. It may also allow us to hear about options we may not have considered. Information about the consultation and how to provide feedback is available on the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment website in the Have Your Say section:
