Investment Plan to help research organisations diversify workforce
Published: 10 February 2021
The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment has published its Investment Plan for the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Capability Fund, which will support research organisations to attract and retain a diverse workforce.
Around $4 million has been allocated for the EDI Capability Fund, which was first announced by Minister for Research, Science and Innovation Megan Woods in October 2019.
The Investment Plan sets out the Fund’s objectives for the next four years, which reinforce MBIE’s wider strategy and Diversity in Science Statement.
Current data shows that women, Māori and Pasifika people are all under represented, particularly at the senior levels of the research workforce. MBIE is committed to understanding and promoting diversity in Science and Research, and is thrilled to release the Investment Plan as the first step in the launch of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Capability Fund.
The Investment Plan has been developed through extensive sector engagement. Through collaboration with key partners, a tailored pathway has been developed for research organisations that reflects the unique diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand and will enable them to identify and remove barriers in the workplace.
The EDI Capability Fund will support research organisations to build stronger connections and partnerships with Māori, enabling the sector to develop strong foundations in upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and will create equal opportunities for all to participate, grow and thrive.
MBIE will issue a Call for Proposals in March 2021, along with full details on eligibility and selection criteria for research organisations to access the Fund. More information is available on our website.
