Increase to funding thresholds for Envirolink Advice Grants
Published: 06 July 2020
In 2019, we commissioned an independent evaluation of the Envirolink Scheme. Envirolink is a fund that provides grants to selected smaller Regional Councils adapt environmental management tools to local needs, and translate environmental science knowledge into practical advice.
The review concluded that Envirolink makes a worthwhile and valuable contribution in how it supports regional councils to engage with and use environmental science research and technology.
It confirmed that through the scheme, regional councils have improved capability to access and use environmental science information for planning and decision-making.
The review made a range of recommendations intended to improve the efficiency and overall impact of the scheme, including increasing funding thresholds, streamlining the administration processes and broadening the scope of the scheme (eg the provision of grants to ‘ground-truth’ advice).
In response, we will increase funding thresholds for Envirolink Advice Grants from 1 July 2020, to reflect the increase in the cost of advice from research providers since the fund was set up in 2005. New funding thresholds will be:
|Advice grant type||Funding threshold from 1 July 2020*|
|Small||Up to $10,000|
|Medium||Up to $40,000|
|Large||Up to $80,000|
*all figures exclude GST
We will also be considering the other recommendations in the year ahead, with a particular focus on process improvements and streamlining the fund’s administration.
