Government passes wheel clamping Bill

Published: 26 November 2019

Improved protections for consumers from unreasonable and predatory behaviour by wheel clamping operators are a step closer after the Land Transport (Wheel Clamping) Amendment Bill passed its third reading.

Under the Bill, the maximum fee that anyone will have to pay to a wheel clamping operator will be $100. Other changes include requiring operators to unclamp a vehicle within a reasonable period of time after being asked to do so.

Wheel clamping operators who breach these rules will be committing an offence, and may face on-the-spot fines by the Police.
