Government releases discussion paper on unfair commercial practices

Published: 10 December 2018

The Government has released a discussion paper on options for protecting customers and businesses from unfair commercial practices.

Unfair commercial practices can include:

  • unfair contracts, such as contract terms which deliberately shift risk onto the weaker party
  • unfair conduct, such as the use of pressure tactics or deception.

While existing legislation protects consumers and businesses against a range of unfair commercial practices, the Government wants to ensure there are no gaps in the current protections.

The consultation closes on 25 February 2019.
