Consumers set to benefit through Government’s response to Electricity Price

Published: 03 October 2019

Consumers are set to benefit from several recommendations from the Electricity Price Review which have been accepted by the Government.

The Government has said most of the recommendations can be progressed immediately. Some will need further work.

The Government made sure consumers were at the heart of this review. Electricity prices have been increasing faster than inflation for many years, putting pressure on household budgets. The review played a key role in assessing whether the electricity market is delivering power at a fair and equitable price to consumers.

The accepted recommendations are collectively significant at improving the outcomes for consumers; either directly through strengthening consumer voice, measures to address energy hardship or through improved market operations.
