Tēnei tūranga – About the role

MBIE’s Integrity and Enforcement Team (IET) is responsible for protecting, encouraging and ultimately enforcing the integrity of business registers administered by the New Zealand Companies Office.

The Senior Integrity Officer contributes to the operations of the IET and will bring their business understanding and perspective to work in partnership with their manager and other staff to ensure quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to integrity and enforcement matters.

 This is achieved by:

  • Undertaking integrity work for the New Zealand Companies Office on behalf of the Registrar of Companies and other statutory officers.
  • Conducting comprehensive interviews, analysis and investigation of records.
  • Completing initial investigations of possible breaches of legislation and where applicable, contributing to enforcement action.
  • Investigating and responding to complaints received from the public.
  • Investigating and taking prosecution action against offenders under the relevant legislation, in particular the Companies Act 1993.

Personal specifications

  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Companies Act 1993 and Financial Service Providers (Registration and Dispute Resolution) Act 2008.
  • Sound operational and legislative knowledge of the statutory function of the Registrar of Companies (and other relevant statutory officers) or relevant practical industry or business experience in either the commercial or public sectors.
  • Demonstrates analytical, problem-solving and research skills leading to sound judgement and excellent decision making.
  • A thorough understanding of investigative techniques and methods including proven ability to:
    • interact with and seek information from a variety of corporate office holders; and
    • write clear and concise reports; and
    • liaise with other agencies and stakeholders.
  • Planning and organising skills, including ability to maintain performance when under pressure, critical assessment of work-flows, and appropriate prioritising of work.
  • Computer and keyboard skills including ability to use Word, Excel, and information databases, and knowledge of web sites and Internet services.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information or areas of work and a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Can-do attitude.
  • Proven ability to develop trust and credibility with stakeholders, managers and other MBIE employees.

  • Using analysis and research skills to lead and undertake integrity checking and other work programmes as required.
  • Responding to requests for advice and information from both internal and external clients, as well as providing client support in a timely manner.
  • Working collaboratively with others in IET on integrity, compliance and enforcement programmes.
  • Working closely with Companies Office Business Registries teams on integrity and compliance programmes.
  • Preparing relevant reports for consideration.
  • Liaising professionally with external stakeholders.
  • Completing presentations when requested by Managers.
  • Managing work programmes effectively.
  • Providing prompt input to reporting requirements.
  • Taking accountability for the quality of work delivered by ensuring quality assurance and controls are applied in all integrity and compliance work.
  • Delivering integrity and compliance services to the highest standards required that actually support and contribute to the achievement of the Ministry’s outcomes.
