Canterbury Recovery

Rebuilding Greater Christchurch is one of the Government’s four priorities this term and is the biggest economic undertaking in New Zealand’s history.

It will have huge social, cultural and environmental impacts on the local area and for the entire country for years to come.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has a critical role to play in the success of the rebuild and recovery.

MBIE is playing its part by helping ensure repairs are undertaken safely and correctly and there are enough of the right type of workers, supporting the revitalisation of the inner city, assisting people to find temporary accommodation and improving ways to mass purchase goods and services.

We are also working on how any lessons learned during the Canterbury rebuild and recovery could be applied in other regions or for the whole of the country.

These pages introduce you to MBIE’s work in and about Canterbury and give you direct access to useful information, education and advice from MBIE and other relevant agencies.
