Tenancy Services is a part of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
The Tenancy Services website provides information on your responsibilities and rights as a landlord or tenant. The website covers every stage of the tenancy process, from starting a tenancy; rent, bonds and bills; maintenance and inspections; and ending a tenancy; providing clear information, forms and templates for you to use.
You can also find guidance on dealing with common tenancy issues.
If you're a landlord or tenant and have a dispute that you can't sort out together, Tenancy Services can arrange mediation to help resolve your issue. If you can not resolve it at mediation, they will refer you to the Tenancy Tribunal, which is managed by the Ministry of Justice.
Changes to tenancy laws aim to make homes warmer, drier and safer for hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders without imposing excessive bureaucracy or cost.
The Government has introduced a bill to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 1986.
A series of seminars about renting will be held across New Zealand during 2017.
