Auckland Housing Accord

The Auckland Housing Accord was signed on 3 October 2013 by Housing Minister Dr Nick Smith and Auckland Mayor Len Brown.

The Accord is a three year agreement to urgently increase the supply and affordability of housing in Auckland until Auckland Council’s Unitary Plan becomes fully operative in September 2016, and the Government’s Resource Management Act reforms for planning processes take effect.

The Accord sets a target of 9,000 additional residential houses being consented for in the first year, 13,000 in the second year, and 17,000 in the third year.

Progress on Housing Accord targets are reported in regular monitoring reports. The most recent monitoring report covers the third quarter of the fourth year of the Auckland Housing Accord.
