Flood relief package announced

The Government has announced a $700,000 support package for the flood affected areas of the Bay of Plenty.

The package will see $250,000 made available to the Whakatane District Council, to support flood affected businesses. The Council will administer the funds and they will begin taking applications for assistance shortly. More information will be posted on their website in the next few days. In the meantime if you need assistance please call them on 07 306 0500.

In addition to this the Government has provided an extra $200,000 in funding for Rural Assistance Payments, these payments will be available for rural families who have been affected by the flooding and will be administered by the Ministry of Social Development. There is also $250,000 available through a Rural Support Trust to help farmers and growers assess crop damage. This will be administered by MPI, and eligibility details and how to apply will be available shortly.
