Funding for regional tourism infrastructure opens
On: 18 August 2016
Applications are now open for a new fund that will help communities develop small infrastructure projects that enhance visitor experiences.
Up to $3 million is available each year through the Regional Mid-sized Tourism Facilities Grant Fund, which aims to support communities to manage and benefit from growing numbers of tourists and independent travellers.
The fund seeks to maximise the tourism growth potential of the regions by providing new or enhanced infrastructure for visitors – facilities such as toilets, carparks, waste disposal or minor water management projects.
Budget 2016 included $12 million over four years for the fund, which is part of a wider suite of initiatives that form the Government’s tourism strategy. The tourism strategy supports the tourism sector and the regions to reap the benefits of growth while managing the pressures increased visitor numbers can place on communities and infrastructure.
Applications close on 15 September, with funding decisions expected to be made in mid-October.
